Last Saturday 23rd October 21 was time well spent by participants of the Urban Permaculture workshop, organized by Organo Et School, at Slow Down Place, a simple place with ½ acre of vegetable garden, to grow its own produce.
Deepavali is round the corner, and we all are putting our thoughts together about decoration ideas for our homes and offices. We are also looking for gifting ideas to friends and family over Diwali time.
Monsoon rains extended into October making this monsoon farm cycle quite unpredictable. But that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the children, parents or OES team members.
With rain forecasts threatening our farm again, we decided to have the long overdue session on Botanic Illustration and the importance of Plant Documentation. Our regular Creative Expert Anu Dahiya led this event and engaged the children in a step-by-step method of plant observation and documentation.
Finally, the sun was out, the farm was dry and the beds were ready. With a quick clean-up of weeds and overgrowth, our farm coaches and kids were ready for sowing...At OES, we continue to admire the enthusiasm and resilience with which the parents and children participate in the program, despite the multiple flooding. It goes to show how much we want our children to learn and navigate real world experience of reward and perseverance. It makes us want to continue to work hard to deliver a solid and natural learning experience.
The most important legacy we leave for our children is the planet with all its resources. The current situation leaves no doubt in our predicament; We are at the cross-road to make decisions that will create a lasting impact on our planet. The health and future of our children are in our hands.
In the event of October 2021 being declared as the “Cyber Security Awareness Month” by DSCI. On a bright Sunday morning of 9th October 2021, we logged in for an online Workshop lead by our Cyber Security expert Mr.Sriram. The young participants in the age bracket of 10-16 yrs were all set to join in. They logged in to an informative session on dangers of the cyber world for children. While they are either studying online or playing or chatting with friends on social media.

It was another rainy morning with few sunny breaks thrown in by Rain Gods. Children logged in from their computers for an online session with our in-house expert Meena Murugappan.
For the longest time, paper napkins and paper tissues were not a part of Indian everyday living. We were content with using cloth towels for face, hand and body drying. Over the last couple of decades, these thin papers rapidly made their way into our catering services, restaurants, households and offices.
What a rainy week we saw in Hyderabad! We experienced a Cloud Burst, which was followed by days of consistent rains, and resulted in minor flooding of our Children’s farm. While our temporary drainage solution worked, the trench could not match the water-logging rate to the water-drainage rate.
A key component of Natural Farming methods is Soil Health. Beneficial micro-organisms help "Dead Soil" become"Living Soil". Micro-organisms decompose and ferment organic parts ofthe soil system, converting them into humus containing nutrients and releasinghormones facilitating plant growth. In addition, they improve soil aggregatequality and soil stability, enabling it to retain nutrients and moisture (Kengoand Hui-lian, 2000).

Children saw and experienced the Monsoon rains flooding the farms nearby as well as the OES Children’s Farm. Monsoons play an important role in Indian agriculture. The soil was softened by the rains and became a playfield for the children.
