The Sustainability through Experiential Learning (STEL) program – Safe Food System at The Sri Ram Academy, celebrated graduation ceremony on March 28, 2024. The students eagerly awaited as they anticipated reaping the rewards of their hard work.
OES team visited the school premises to assist the students in the process of harvest. This collaborative effort ensured active participation from each student, reinforcing their comprehension of safe food systems and the value of practical farming experience.
Harvesting leafy greens
The Methi(Fenugreek) and Dhaniya(Coriander) in the growbags have reached full maturity and are ready for harvest. The vibrant vegetable garden cultivated by PYP 3 students was a sight to behold, brimming with lush greenery.
Harvesting commenced under the guidance of gardening expert Ms. Sreedevi Ande. Demonstrating the proper uprooting technique, Ms. Sreedevi encouraged the students to gather the produce themselves.
Eager to apply their newfound skills, students worked together enthusiastically, joyfully harvesting the fresh greens.
This rewarding experience solidified students' understanding of safe food systems, instilling a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work.
Following the successful harvest, the bounty was transported to the school cafeteria, where it contributed to nutritious meals for students.
Maintaining farm log book
Meanwhile, under the mentorship of Ms. Sandya Reddi, another group of students diligently filled out their farm logbooks. Reflecting on their farming journey allowed students to articulate their insights and experiences, reinforcing their understanding of farming concepts.
Graduation ceremony
The graduation ceremony, presided over by Ms. Meena Murugappan, director of OES was a proud moment for both students and faculty alike. Receiving certificates for completing the STEL program was a significant achievement, immortalized through photographs capturing memories for both the students and the faculty.
