On a bright February spring morning, we all collected for a quite unique experience of No-flame cooking with our expert Ms.Himanshu Kapoor. This workshop was a celebration of Indian Spring season called Basanth. The venue Slow Down Place restaurant's outdoor kitchen garden was most apt for this celebration. The place was full of fresh flowers and vegetables and looked vibrant in the morning hours.
Participants came in friendly groups and as individuals to enjoy this experience. The place had 18 cooking stations setup prior to the start of OES workshop. As Ms.Himashu took charge, it was a delight to listen to her, introducing slow food movement to the audience, whose attention was fully with her. She told an interesting story of how slow food came into existence and its nutritional benefits.
Then came the interesting part of cooking without the real flame. Ms.Himanshu demonstrated by preparing 3 interesting and tasty recipes, a refreshing, naturally colorful drink, a leafy green salad and a surprisingly tasty butter. The best part about these were the ingredients, marigold and calendula petals, farm fresh bouquet of leafy vegetables, spinach, green and red Amaranthus, beetroot leaves, carrot leaves, brahmi leaves to name a few. So fresh, literally (harvested the same morning) from OES Children's Farm, all locally available varieties cultivated by natural farming methods only.
Having followed the expert in this DIY cooking workshop, all participants were ready with their preparations. Now came the tasting moment, greatly anticipated by all. As our participants, who formed a very interesting mix of ages from 9-30 years old, enjoyed what they had cooked here, they also shared their excitement and learnings.
So, this is how we came to the end of a very innovative and at the same time informative workshop. In the end all participants were given freshly harvested and naturally grown vegetables to take home. Along with that our expert gave them specially prepared Musilli jars. The best part of this experience was the fun that everybody had learning the secret of no flame cooking.
