Prakruthi Montessori House of Children Visits Organo Et School Children's Farm, Kesaram

On July 10th, 2024, 40 students from Prakruthi Montessori House of Children, Kondapur, visited Organo Et School Children's Farm Campus at Kesaram. This educational trip was designed to provide hands-on experiential learning about sustainability and natural farming practices.

Upon arrival, the children were greeted by Ms. Sandya and the rest of the team. Ms. Sandya introduced the concept of natural farming. The group was divided into two smaller groups to facilitate focused learning activities.

Jeevamrutham Preparation:

One group engaged in preparing Jeevamrutham, a natural bio-fertilizer with Ms. Sandya and Mr. Nagaraj (Farm Supervisor). 

They learned the importance of using cow dung, cow urine, besan, jaggery, and soil. The process of mixing and fermenting these ingredients was demonstrated, and the children explored different soil types.

Transplanting and Mulching:

The second group focused on transplanting tomato saplings and mulching existing tomato and brinjal plants. They learned about the benefits of mulching for soil moisture retention and weed prevention.

Afterward, the groups switched to ensure all children experienced both activities.

Post Lunch Activities:

The children enjoyed a picnic lunch on the farm grounds, fostering a sense of community and relaxation.

Post-lunch, Ms. Susmita demonstrated the broad-casting method of seed sowing. The children participated in a soil composition test using mason jars, visually illustrating the sedimentation process and its relation to soil layers.

Educational Walk and Additional Learning:

Ms. Kalyani and Ms. Susmita guided the children to the mandala garden, explaining its significance.

They also learned about farm irrigation techniques.

The visit included a tour of the nursery, where Ms. Kalyani, Ms. Susmita, and Mr. Ganapathy, the nursery manager, educated the children on the botanical names of various plants.

The children and staff expressed their appreciation to the Organo School team for an enriching and educational experience. The children’s enthusiasm was evident, with many sharing their excitement and stating, "This is the best thing I learned."

This educational trip not only enhanced the students' understanding of sustainability but also instilled a sense of responsibility and connection to the environment.
