After successfully completing the seventh batch of the Kindergardener's program we started our eighth batch of Be A Farmer Kindergardeners on June 30th, 2024. In their first session, the young Kindergardeners enthusiastically learned about sowing seeds and preparing the soil.

Icebreaker

Upon the arrival of all the children at the farm, Ms. Susmita and Ms. Sandya warmly welcomed them. Ms. Sandya Reddi, invited them to sit in a circle and play an introduction game, where they share their favorite fruits and vegetables.

This icebreaker helped the children feel comfortable and at ease at the farm, including Mollu, the pet of one of the children.

Following the introductions, our farm coach, Ms. Sreedevi Ande, explained the differences between natural farming and chemical farming, setting the stage for their learning journey.

Seed Identification Game

Mrs. Sridevi conducted a Guess the Seed game where the children and parents both got indulge in identifying the seeds.

Hands-On Learning in Assigned Patch Areas

The children were then guided to their designated patch areas, where they gathered around a demonstration patch. Mrs. Sreedevi demonstrated the initial steps for growing leafy greens, beginning with soil preparation using a rake and shovel. She then instructed the children to divide their patches into two halves by drawing a line and demonstrated the broadcasting method for sowing seeds.

Seed Sowing and Watering Techniques

Following their teacher's instructions, the children prepared the soil and sowed coriander and spinach seeds.

After completing the seed sowing, they gathered around the demo patch once more to observe gentle watering techniques. They then repeated the instructions, carefully watering their seeds as demonstrated.

The session concluded with the children harvesting methi, spinach, and various microgreens.

The children left the farm with their harvests, promising to share recipes, filled with happiness and excitement, eagerly anticipating their return to the patches the following weekend.

These activities brought immense joy to the children, and their enthusiasm delighted the parents who were present.
