On 6th March 22, Sunday morning it looked like summer is here, at OES Children’s Farm. Sun was shining bright over the farm sky and all around. The Kinder gardeners walked up to their farm patches equipped with their farm tools and buckets. Sreedevi their farm coach greeted them all with smiles and cheer.

This time the session started with just few of them showing up at beginning of the session. They were called by OES Director and coach Meena to attend an overview of the root system, followed by a demo. While this was going on, more kinder gardeners arrived at the farm. Soon it was a full house. All of them went to have a look at their farm patches to find new plant growth there. This made them happy and full of joy.

Now, Sreedevi took charge of the session for these little ones, as root system session progressed deeper for senior batch at the farm. Sreedevi called them all back to the patches. Very carefully she made the kids identify any pest attack on green leaves of  Amaranthus and Coriander. Looking out for pests helped them identify that plants also get diseased like humans. Therefore, its necessary to apply medicines to plants too. The plant medicines are called pesticides. We at OES Children’s farm use natural methods of farming, so only natural pesticides like buttermilk, neem oil solution are applied to crops grown here. Kids were made aware of this important step involved for pest control. One of our kinder gardeners joined late so he was able to apply jeevamrutam at his patch this time, like the others had done during a previous session.

Having learnt about pests and pesticides, kids moved to the next step. They all ran to fill water in their watering buckets and got them near their patches where Sreedevi demonstrated watering the little leafy vegetables. They all followed her carefully watering the plants in their patches. Even on a sunny day, all Leafys looked happy and fresh being carefully watered well.

Post watering it was time for an exciting memory game on Vegetables and Fruits for them. They thoroughly enjoyed this game conducted by Sreedevi. They all thanked her and bid goodby to each other.
