With the onset of summer in Hyderabad and around, OES Children’s farm presented a changed look that Sunday morning. On 27 February 2022 children of Spring batch collected for session 4 of Be a Farmer Program. They all geared up for a couple of interesting activities planned for them during this session.
Shilpa helped them with the application of Jeevamrutam on new plants cropping out on children’s farm patches. The fermented Jeevamrutam is a rich source of nutrients as a bio-fertilizer and pest controlling elements developed in a natural manner. This is a widely used practice in natural farming in our country. Once all of them were satisfied with uniform application of Jeevamrutam on their respective farm patches, they were ready for the next activity.
Having worked on the farm patches, it was time for some theory lessons for our young farmers. This time the topic was ‘Seeds’ to be described in detail. Shilpa, our farm coach, had a basket full of seeds of various kinds set up. She asked the children to identify these one by one. She had also displayed many pulses in glass tumblers for identification. Shilpa covered the following seed related areas:
• Why are seeds important?
• What are seeds used for?
• How to store seeds well?
Kids were very aware of seeds and their importance, as they answered Shilpa’s questions well.
After this, it was time for some flower harvesting activity. Once the kids had their full of it, they bid goodbye to the OES Children’s farm and session-4 came to an end.
