Some cheerful students of Indus International School arrived at OES farm around 10 am, on a humid morning of 6th of April 2023. OES team members very delightfully welcomed them with lemonade to boost their energy level.
The children were given an introduction by Mr. Vijay Ramana.N, Senior Farm Manager, briefing them on cultivating a healthy lifestyle. He showed them bullocks in the farm and told them about the importance of traditional farming.
Since there were 50 students, our experts decided to divide them into 2 groups. One section took part in the activities while the other section explored the farm.
The children took their tiny steps towards the farm along with our OES experts, Mrs. Lakshmi and Mrs. Prabha. The graceful school teachers and supportive team took great care of the children while walking down the lanes of the farm.
They were introduced to gardening tools, different kinds of seeds, and vegetable plants like radish, brinjal, tomato, carrot, beetroot, mint, ladyfinger, cucumber, papaya etc. They were also given a tour of the polyhouse to enlighten them with more information about farming techniques.
Children also came around the mandala garden observing different kinds of flowers and a variety of tulsi plants over there.
Mr Vijay started the activity session with Mason soil testing. He was assisted by Mr. Nagaraju, Farm Supervisor where they learned about sediments, different layers of soil, etc.
Jeevamrutham preparation was steered by Mr. Vijay, who conducted the activity creating zeal among the children to earnestly participate in it.
The children's desire to learn more about farming has really surprised our OES team. OES genuinely believes in learning by experiencing. So we try to encourage the children to love nature by actually being in nature. We are grateful to Indus International School for believing in OES and giving us a chance to share our thoughts on nature.
