On 7th Jan, as a part of our intent to create awareness on 7 strands of sustainability across communities in Hyderabad, we rolled out several of our popular eco-workshops at My Home Bhooja. We were thrilled to receive an enthusiastic response from the residents. What a way to kick-start the roll-out of Organo@Communities initiatives for 2023!
With the strong support of the Residents Committee, we were able to inform the residents of the upcoming workshops and request for pre-registrations. We were also able to distribute the OES activity workbooks to all residents.
We had received over 60+ registrations to Art-in-Nature workshop, 40+ registrations for Kitchen Gardening Workshop and a planned participation of 50+ for Jeevamarutham Making workshop. This pre-registrations help showcase the enthusiasm of the residents and helped us prepare better for the event.
When we arrived at the central lawns of Bhooja, people started coming to us and enquiring about what is going to happen there. Some of them who registered for the workshop asked when those workshops would start. We answered all their questions and welcomed them to play the seed identification game, designed for both adults and children. Everyone enjoyed this game and winners won pouches of leafy seeds as gifts.
Those who wanted to work on activity books were given the books, and encouraged to complete them, take a photo, and send it to us via WhatsApp, so that we can showcase them through our Instagram.
After more people started joining, we welcomed them to participate in Jeevamrutham Making - a natural fertilizer that increases microbial growth in soil and helps crop growth. Adults, along with their children, enjoyed participating in this workshop. Over 60 people made Jeevamrutham in three batches, guided by our farm manager Mr.Venkatesh Nallamili.
Children participated in the Art-in-Nature workshops by Mrs. Anurag Dahiya, an artist & botanical illustrator. She brought leaves, vegetables and natural colors to guide the children in a painting by using those natural items. Children brought out their creativity in this art-making activity.
All the parents' faces were lit with happiness seeing their sons and daughters participating actively. More than 100 children made beautiful illustrations, guided by Mrs. Dahiya, and were able to observe and incorporate natural elements in their art expressions.
While the children were busy with their art, adults joined the Kitchen Garden workshop by Ms. Shilpa Teja, a practicing Permaculturist. Ms. Shilpa introduced herself to the audience and explained how everyone can start the journey of kitchen gardening by following simple steps.
She demonstrated how to mix soil with vermi compost, urban compost and cocopeat. She also emphasized the importance of regular care of plants and how Jeevamrutham, Buttermilk and Neem oil can be used as fertilizers for plants. During the Q&A, she answered all the questions about the difficulties they faced while they were gardening.
Through our workshops at My Home Bhooja, we hope we met the expectations of 200+ families, who had registered as well as the families who dropped by. We will continue to roll-out these workshops across various communities this year!
