On June 17th, families gathered at Organo Et School (OES) for an educational Sunset Harvest Program. The program kicked off with a warm welcome from Assistant Program Coordinator, Mrs. Susmita Changkakoty.

She spoke about the importance of safe food systems and why everyone should start making conscious choices in their daily life. She also talked about the 7 strands of sustainability and about OES's initiatives in this area.

Next, it was time to get our hands dirty! Families were invited to harvest spinach and coriander in the poly house. Children were thrilled to pick the leafy greens with their own hands, and parents beamed with pride as they watched their kids learn about where their food comes from.

By the end of the harvest, everyone had collected over 1kg of each leafy greens.

After the harvest, families gathered to make Jeevamrutham, a biofertilizer for plants. They mixed cow dung, cow urine, besan, jaggery, and soil together, and then filled the mixture into bottles to take home and use on their own plants.

To round out the day, families took a tour of the farm to see all the different types of vegetables that are grown at OES farm. They also received tomatoes, ladyfingers, green bananas, and cauliflowers as a token of appreciation for their interest in learning more about sustainable agriculture.

Families had a great time, and they learned a lot about where their food comes from. While leaving they all shared their experiences with us.
