On 20th May, OES conducted 2nd sunset harvest after successfully organizing 1 Sunset and 3 Sunrise Harvest programs. Families came to OES Farm on a Saturday evening to experience the joy of Harvesting naturally grown vegetables.

Sharing good news

Mrs. Susmita Changkakoty, Assistant Program Co-ordinator,  welcomed them with a smile. She introduced herself and our team members to the participants. She also gave an overview of Organo Et School’s initiatives. She also shared the good news of Organo Et School being recognized by UNESCO under its Green Initiatives Program

After informing the participants about what they were going to do, she requested Mr. Vijaya Ramana, Farming Manager at Organo to talk about the importance of natural farming.

Consuming local and seasonal food

Mr. Vijay took the lead and talked about why everyone should focus on where their food comes from. He talked about soil health, importance of consuming local and seasonal food, traditional methods of natural farming, and how they can get safe food. He informed them about how our carbon footprint increases if we consume food that was exported from distant places. This was followed by a question and answer session.

Preparing Jeevamrutha

Then all of the participants took part in making Jeevamrutham. Children and adults enjoyed this activity as they had to prepare this natural fertilizer by mixing 5 natural ingredients with bare hands. Most fun part was mixing cow dung and cow urine which have the ability to improve soil health. The solution they prepared was given to them in glass bottles along with a manual on how to prepare and use it at home

Harvesting Vegetables

Later they went to the fields where cluster beans and ladies' fingers were grown by our farming team.

Parents were happy to see their children happy while harvesting. Harvesting was followed by a farm tour. Participants enjoyed seeing different crops grown on OES Farm. While they were leaving the farm they all shared their positive experiences with us.
